All About Communication offers evidence-based assessment and therapy in a variety of areas of Speech and Language Pathology. We work closely with other health-care professionals in the community to provide a team approach to intervention. In consultation with clients and their families, we will not hesitate to refer a client to another professional if we cannot meet their needs.
Fees are based on the recommended fee guidelines set forth by the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists and are based on the needs of the client. Most third-party insurance companies offer coverage for Speech-Language assessment and treatment. Please contact your insurance company to discuss your coverage.

SPEECH SOUND DELAY OR DISORDER
Speech refers to the process of making sounds to form words, phrases, and sentences. A speech sound delay or disorder may result from a delay in the development or use of the mechanisms of speech or from injury to the muscles, nerves, or the brain areas that produce speech. It may also be linked to difficulties with perception (hearing) of sounds as well as the phonological representation of speech. A speech sound delay or disorder will impact on speech intelligibility of the speaker. All About Communication can provide therapy targeting motor-speech typical sound development or production.
EXPRESSIVE AND RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE DELAY OR DISORDER
Expressive language is the ability to communicate with others using language. It includes the abiity to use gestures and facial expressions to communicate as well as using words and combining them into phrases and sentences using language specific grammar rules.
Receptive language is the ability to listen and understand language. It includes understanding both words and gestures, understanding questions and concepts such as prepositions and serial order, following routine or new directions, and interpretng complex grammatical forms such as passive and active sentences. Typically, children develop receptive language skills before they begin to express themselves using each of these skills.
One or both areas may be impacted at the same time as the result of developmental delays or acquired brain injury. A number of therapy techniques targeting language are available and are based on individual assessment results.
SOCIAL COMMUNICATION DELAYS AND DISORDERS
Social communication is the ability to use rules for how we use language in different situation and with different people. Social communication delays and disorders can occur in isolation or in combination with other diagnoses such as a language learning disability, executive functioning disorder such as ADHD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Social communication is complex and includes a number of components working together (ASHA – Components of Social Communication).

Voice disorders are caused by damage to the vocal cords that can occur from vocal abuse, illness, and reflux. It can result in vocal nodules, polyps, and other injury to your vocal cords. Illnesses such as cancer and nerve damage can also impact how well our vocal cords function. A number of treatment options are available to help alleviate the difficulties associated with voice disorders. All About Communication offers therapy for most pediatric and adult voice disorders, however, we will refer professional voice users, especially singers, to SLPs with advanced training in professional voice disorders and Singing Voice Specialists.
Fluency is an area that encompases stuttering, cluttering and other dysfluent speech.
- Stuttering is the most common form of dysfluent speech and is present when the flow of speech is disrupted by involuntary repetitions and prolongations of sounds, syllables, words or phrases as well as involuntary silent pauses or blocks.
- Developmental stuttering is the most common form of stuttering and it is believed to occur when a child’s speech and language abilities are unable to meet the child’s verbal demands. Developmental stuttering usually resolves within 6 months to 1 year but should be monitored by a Speech-Language Pathologist with fluency training.
- Cluttering is characterized by a rapid rate of speech, erratic rhythm, and poor grammar, all of which make speech difficult to understand.
All About Communication uses a number of evidence-based therapy techniques to support fluent speech.
Literacy is the ability to read and write. Reading and writing development involves a range of complex language components including awareness of speech sounds (phonology), spelling patterns (orthography), word meaning (semantics), grammar (syntax) and patterns of word formation (morphology), all of which provide a necessary platform for reading fluency and comprehension and written language development. All About Communication provides a compressive evidence-based program to aid in the acquisition of literacy skills.
AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas. A number of low-tech and high-tech options are available to help aid the communication of non-verbal or minimally verbal children and adults. All About Communication clinicians have advanced training and experience with assessment, implementation, and providing therapy in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, including PECS, Pixon Board, Proloquo2go, LAMP Words for Life, and Unity. We work closely with other service providers from Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and Five Counties Children’s Centre as well as local schoool boards and daycare centres to provide training and support.
AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neuro-developmental disorder that typically affects a person’s ability to communicate, form relationships, and respond appropriately to the environment. The symptoms and characteristics of autism can present themselves in a variety of combinations, to varying degrees of severity, from mild to severe. Speech and language therapy for autism targets pre-linguistic skills, speech and language development, social deficits, play skills, and literacy. All About Communication is able to provide personalized therapy plans and goals based on a comprehensive assessment of children with ASD as well as provide consultation and training for Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI) programs.
DOWN SYNDROME AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL AND GENETIC DISORDERS
Developmental and genetic disorders, as well as some medical disorders such as hearing impairments, Down syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, fragile X, DeGeorge syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilipsy, ADHD/ADD and learning disabilities can impact on the speech and language development of children and adults. All or some of the above service areas may require some level of speech and language therapy.
